Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin announced that the merge has been accomplished.

Reading Time: < 1 minute

On his twitter, Vitalik made a note on the success of the merge and said appreciation for the team working for it. The merge was first expected to take about two year, but the team has accomplished it in just around a year. Ethereum is the biggest smart contract platform in crypto world. However, it had high transaction fees, slow in finality, and could handle just around 25 transaction per second. The merge is to transform its high-cost, slow, and limited proof of work (PoW) to a more scalable, speed, and low fee proof of stake system. On 15 September 2022, Vitalik announced its accomplishment on his twitter. There was also an speculation that the team might split into two groups: those who want to continue with the PoW network and those who want to process with the new PoS network. However, no update on that speculation is observed yet.
